I'mAMacSep 1, 01:30 PMTalking about the iMac chin, isn't it time for a new-look iMac? I couldn't imagine a 23" wide chin
What is the chin. Though, i have heard people talking about it and they said that if there is a 23" it is possible for Apple to eliminate it.

SuperCachetesMar 20, 09:27 AM"Firing missles and bombing" from great distances has a "disconnect" between people.

I 'll agree with this, but not in favor of ground troops and "camaraderie." The real issue with missiles and bombs is collateral damage. Even if we get the target correct and use our best laser-guided systems, we still end up killing the neighbors or showering kids in the street with rubble, etc. For all our money and technology, we have not taken the brutality out of weapons systems. As a parent, I know I'd have a hard time accepting the loss of my kids for the benefit of my country, especially at the hands of an outside force whose families are tucked cleanly away in their peaceful western beds.

The jets and rockets are there to prevent Gaddafi from killing civilians, not to prevent Gaddafi from winning.

As far as you've been told.

lordonuthinOct 16, 02:18 PMwell guys, i might be cutting back even more for right now. heat is becoming an issue. i made a thread about it here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=8645334#post8645334). at my current rate, i think i'll have the air on in my apartment in the dead of winter!

I know what you mean, my small house keeps toasty just from the computers running. The problem is getting the heat moved from the computer room... thus a box fan in the door pushing in cool air at the bottom.

quagmireJan 5, 08:01 AMTo the BMW guys, how reliable is the E46 325i?
I have a chance to pick one up for a fairly low cost (Less than $6,000 canadian). It is pretty much mint and VERY well maintained.
Car has a bit higher miles (~125,000 miles/ 205,000km), but I am guessing well maintained they will last quite a while?

I really enjoyed my brothers E36, and I just got rid of my project cars so I figure this would be a nice change.

My brothers/dads old E46 330xi has been giving him trouble with 150,000 miles on it. Things do wear out, but it seems like every time I hear about the car, it is broken.

20" Apple Cinema Display, 1st Gen. 16gb iPod Touch, Late 2008 MacBook Pro on top of Griffin iStand controlled by an Apple wireless keyboard and Magic mouse, 1TB Seagate external HDD, 32gb Ipad wifi only, 21" Samsung display, 2cd Gen. TV, Razer Lycosa keyboard and Razer Death Adder mouse which controls a Windows XP box i built for my job(under the desk). You can barly see it but there is also a Power PC Mac Mini on top of the Windows machince which acts as a FTP server.

That's no late 2008 MacBook Pro. It can't be, because the late 2008 MacBook Pro was the first to get a unibody design. That might be the early 2008 MacBook Pro with the old classic design. Sorry to say that ;)

Nice setup though! :)

tk421Jul 14, 12:23 AMMeh, Apple came out with that Express Card slot for the MacBook Pro kind of early as well...but I'm with most people in arguing that a blue-ray drive won't see the light of day in Apple computers until early 2007.

Good point, and this isn't just with Express Card, either. Apple was an early adopter with 802.11b (with the original iBook, I think). They were early to drop the floppy drive, too.

I for one would love a Blu-Ray drive, but I understand that others might not. They should make it a BTO option.

kultscharMar 26, 09:49 AMI don't think the problem here is cost. Lots of people want an iPad, so this is like a fringe benefit. It's more about logistics. I don't think it makes sense to run two screens, and tether an iPad to the TV.

Heh, true, I use my iPhone as a Netflix player. Yet, I don't have to hold the iPhone to do it. I just set it up and enjoy the movie. An iPad is a nice tablet, but not a great controller.

I think a USB controller, going to the iPad 2 - that's connected to a TV - makes more sense. Then, it's like a real gaming console. Another possibility... the iPad 2 camera could be used for motion detection. Then, the gaming can be like the Wii or XBOX 360 Kinect.

My problem here is the cable HDMI cables are usually short.

This is progress though.

I'm not bashing the iPad. I think it's cool. It's clearly the leader in the tablet market. Yet, I don't think this is the direction to go for gaming. I think the Apple TV makes more sense.

Apple TV With a Camera and that changes things.
FaceTime, Games, Apps on the TV.

But again, the controller is the problem. Apple is not leading here. It should set the standard, not let developers create Frankenstein gaming consoles. This isn't the Pipen. Apple has a strong opportunity to enter the game console space. I don't see a reason to delay.

Hmm - Apple TV with similar storage e.g. 32GB, 64GB, the ATV remote also acting as the gamepad (kinda like the wii control)

Games are compatible with both iPad and Apple TV (only buy once) and have the choice to play them on iPad or on ATV!!!

Sync from iTunes to put the games on both devices!

Now that would be cool - games are relatively cheap compared to consoles etc and they can also be used wit your iPhone and iPad (all Universal)

QuarterSwedeApr 10, 06:18 PMas the other guys have said, in the UK automatics are pretty rare. i think we all know one friend or so who has an Auto only license, everyone else just gets a normal license.

if you are the sort of person who enjoys driving to any degree then a manual gearbox is much better. autos are just so boring, they never kick down when you need it or bizarrely hold on to a gear for much longer than you were expecting. im sure there are some good autos out there but they will always be more inefficient than a manual.
When is the last time you were in an automatic and what year/make/model was the car?

Automatics these days are generally a LOT better than they used to be. This is coming from someone who really loves driving a stick on country roads and likes the control you get from one.

I'm starting to think most stick drivers are blind to how much automatics have changed.

iJohnHenryApr 10, 07:10 PMMiata's are actually very good driving cars.

Yes, and excellent value for your dollar.

If I could afford a second car, just for sport, I would try to wedge myself into one.

But I really want an S-2000. :(

motulistAug 7, 03:29 AMAn image of the new iPhone just came out! I can't reveal the source I got it from, but you have to trust me, this is the real deal!

Manic MouseAug 19, 07:08 AMApple should take a leaf out of Sony's book and make the new iPod a mini palm-Mac like the MYLO. A slide out QWERTY keyboard in the style of the Macbook and a large touch screen would make it capable of running anything: Safari, Mail, iCal, iChat etc. It would make the iPod revolutionary (to an extent) again, and more than a mere music device: You could surf the net, write emails, watch movies and listen to music on it. Were it to run a mini-OSX the possibilities would be endless. It would also make people more interested in buying Macs because they can see how good the OS is.

Imagine, on your couch (or in starbucks) reading your email, IMing while listening to your tunes. Bliss. It would also make the WiFi functionality actually useful rather than a gimmick if it's merely a music/video player.

If Apple merely release a new media player they will have missed out on revolutionising the market again like they did when they first released the ipod. Sony have already gone half way there with the MYLO, if Apple go the rest of the way they will blow away the competition!

islandersJan 3, 07:55 AMI agree about the word processor. I never could understand why Apple didnt offer a few more features to make AppleWorks useful.

Im using FrameMaker, but that was discontinued for OSX on Mac.

Too many mine fields in Word.

I was set on a new lap top and Mini, but its going to be a difficult decision. There is a lot of misinformation floating around, and sometimes the Mac community isnt as forthcoming and honest as they should be. Its like they are more concerned if the stocks go up or down than providing an accurate assessment.

My first powerbook was good to me, but the climate/quality has changed, and Im going to keep my options open.

Ill wait and see whats behind curtain number three, but not sure a Mac is the best choice for the average person.
